The University of Alberta's Energy Management Program has been a leader in energy reduction since its inception in 1975, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by more than 2 million tonnes and generating savings of $288 million.

In May 2012, the University of Alberta's Board of Governors passed a revised Discrimination, Harassment and Duty to Accommodate Policy.
