Completed Research

The Sustainability Scholars Program sponsors University of Alberta graduate students to work on applied research projects with the City of Edmonton. Successful applicants work with city mentors, receive $5,000 stipends and complete 250 hour projects in the summer.

2015 Projects

Edmonton is Canada's second fastest growing city and has committed to ambitious sustainability goals with The Way We Green environmental strategic plan. Sustainability Scholars projects were developed by city staff in need of research in order to move foward with their sustainability goals. This applied research is key to helping the city understand its options for meeting its sustainability goals.

The first six Sustainability Scholars completed their projects from April to July, 2015. Their City of Edmonton mentors were Robyn Webb, Barbara Daly, Jim Andrais, Daniel Laubhann, Chandra Tomaras, and Lara Arjan. Learn how each of the Sustainability Scholars benefited from their experience and read their final reports, available for download below.
